The winner of the IWC Cellar Door Award for 2018 has been announced from the four finalists at the IWC Awards Dinner on 10th July 2018 by Charles Metcalfe, IWC Co-Chairman.

Gusbourne is an English winery, based in the heart of the countryside, founded in 2004 by Dr Andrew Weeber with the single goal of producing the finest sparkling wines from each individual vintage. We create exceptional English Sparkling Wine from over 150 acres of vineyards in Kent, and we only use our estate-grown fruit in our wines. We do not buy grapes from contract grape growers in other regions of the UK, and we do not sell grapes to any other producer, so we are in full control of the production and can demonstrate provenance very specifically.
We welcome visitors at The Nest, our cellar door, on a programme of hosted tours and events which gives them the experience of walking in our beautiful vineyards, learning about the viticulture and vinification, and absorbing the history of the area. Gusbourne’s own Kentish history comes alive in our own mini exhibition and gallery space, including a geological map of the area’s soils, and a display of historic artefacts found on the estate. Opened in July 2017 we have seen an incredible response from both local, national & international visitors.

We are a boutique vineyard estate set in the glorious, chalky downs of the Surrey Hills at High Clandon. Our desire is to reflect this unique terroir, this exquisite beauty in all we do with our singular, aged-vintage-only sparkling English Cuvées, and to capture all of that in the welcome given to our guests in our Glass Barn, from ourselves, the gardens and the art.
We want them to embrace this gorgeous English sparkling wine, grown in the glorious terroir. We want them to love the story of sparkling wine and champagne, how we manicure our vines to produce the tastiest and ripest grapes; how we manage the maturation to provide the luscious ‘big’ flavours our High Clandon Cuvées are becoming renowned for; how to taste and enjoy the ‘Quintessence of England’, our name for an English sparkling wine; and how we launch the vintage annually with an ‘Art & Sculptures in the Vineyard’ exhibition celebrating this big event and in so-doing support our local children with disabilities charity, Cherry Trees, as well as showcasing Surrey’s extraordinary artists.

West Street Vineyard tries to bring the new world wine experience to England – great food, fabulous wines with family and friends overlooking a well-kept vineyard and the Essex countryside beyond - a place to relax and enjoy life over a glass of wine or lunch. Locally sourced ingredients with local wines - Essex has the longest coast line in the UK and it produces some of the country’s best sea food - what better than a glass of delicious English wine with a plate of fresh sea food. If our visitors want to learn a little more about wine, and English wines in particular then we offer tutored tastings of 6 wines 3 or 4 times a week, lasting about an hour. If our guests want to take a little more time and try and find out for themselves which wines they like and why – we offer a wine school once a month throughout the year. What we try and do at West Street is make our guests feel comfortable and not intimidated. Our belief and our passion is that wine, is one of life’s great pleasures and is there is to be enjoyed.

At Sharpham Vineyard we have 10 acres of land under vine, a fully operational winery and cheese dairy, as well as our cellar door shop and alfresco lunch restaurant. We are open to the public from March until Christmas with tours running seven days a week from Easter until the end of September. There are a variety of different tour and tasting options to cater for all budgets, abilities, levels of interest, knowledge and time restrictions. The Cellar Door (the alfresco restaurant) serves excellent lunch seven days a week from local and seasonal produce that pairs perfectly with our range of wines, aiming to showcase the great quality of produce in Devon. Our aim is to ensure that every single visitor leaves having learnt about English wine and cheese as well as finding at least one style of each that they really enjoy.
